Garden Gabion

Russ has been busy today constructing another gabion in our garden. He has already made a gabion seat with concrete pieces (it was a practice one for a school garden seat), and had some stones left over from another project. We had recently bought a really cool metal flower windmill that looked a bit unsteady just planted into the ground (probably had a warning about it being in a strong wind on the box), so he decided to build a tall gabion obelix type thing to put it on. Although somewhat reminiscent of a male organ I think it looks rather good!
This is a photo of the original concrete gabion seat - now surrounded by garden.

Lounge room nearly finished

Although the decorating tv shows seem to clean out, paint, and then 'dress' the room all in the same day the reality is much slower. We have finally finished painting the walls of the lounge room (the red feature wall needed a layer of tint and then two layers of colour), the skirting (to cover the old stain they needed four coats of gloss white), the floorboards (ripping up the carpet, sanding and then sealing (three times with sanding in between))... yeah!! Too early to put up any pictures - have done that before and the frames ended up sticking to the walls even though they were 'dry'. We have the couch in and the t.v. on a stool - which means it is finally out of our bedroom. The kids loved having the t.v. in our bedroom as it felt like they were in a hotel - we hated it as it was hard to get comfortable and the bottom of the bed was over the screen (restricted viewing seats).

Tomorrow we will put in all of the rest of the furniture - and finally have room in the dining room, bedroom and bungalow.

Should have started this two years ago...

Like always, we have trouble remembering to take before and after photos of our renovations and garden makeovers. We are already two years into Scott Street and, although we have lots of photos, we haven't always remembered to take them before we have ripped something out. Scott Street is a 1950's brick house in a kind of art-deco style. It has two bedrooms and one bathroom and is on a large block in a small east Victorian town. There is also a filled in garage that is lined with a concret floor and a large colourbond shed. We bought it because even though it was too small we liked the look of it and the potential of the large back yard (and really large shed). Moving from a four bedroom (plus craftroom), house into this little house has been a bit of a squeeze (there are some boxes of stuff that live permanently in the shed).

This is the third house that we have done up and landscaped. The first was a mud brick house up in the bush that my husband built and the second house was a two storey weatherboard that we completely repainted, re-did the kitchen and landscaped.
